Project Overview
Sacramento City College started a brand new Introduction to Beer and Brewing course during the Fall Semester of 2023.  The team was tasked with creating a lasting name, developing a logo and brand, and creating a number of deliverables for the client.
Contributions
ALEC was the Project Manager for the Client and was responsible for communication between a team of designers, the Creative Director of Flagship Studio, and the client. This included maintaining and adhering to an agreed upon schedule, frequent check-ins, and the implementation of deliverables.

In addition to his role as a Project Manager, ALEC was also responsible for providing design work alongside the team.

Clients usually provide names for their businesses or ideas. Creating a name for the Introduction to Beer and Brewing was a first for ALEC. Throwing as many names as possible into the bag proved useful in the end. The team (and with a little push, the client) landed on the name BrewEd as it encapsulated the two most important features of the class and did so in the simplest way possible.

A name is so important when it comes to creating a mark. With the name and the clients for the future, brainstorming began. If a schedule allows it, ALEC generally will spend a few days sketching ideas, coming back to them, creating new outlandish ideas, crossing them out, selecting his favorites and bringing them to digital life in Adobe Illustrator.

The BrewEd Logomark implies the two core concepts derived from the name and curriculum of the class. A hop with its stalk resting on the inside of an open book. The usage of the hop ties into the area surrounding where the course takes place, on the campus of UC Davis where hops are grown and used in local brews.

The client requested a number of deliverables after the combo mark had been decided on. Those deliverables included a flier, a t-shirt, a standing banner, a coaster, and a few instagram templates. The deliverables were created as mock ups and a number of them were set up to be printed professionally.
